Dear Colleagues,

It is with pleasure that we can continue in the series of the International Conference on Solid State Chemistry (SSC) and can host the 15th SSC  that follows the events held in Karlovy Vary (1986), Pardubice (1989), Bratislava (1996), Prague (2000), Bratislava (2002), Prague (2004), Pardubice (2006), Bratislava (2008), Prague (2010), Pardubice (2012), Trenčianske Teplice (2014), Prague (2016), Pardubice (2018), and Trencin (2022 – online due to covid).

The conference series was founded by Prof. Frumar as a symposium for scientists working in the field of solid-state chemistry, and the chemistry and physics of novel inorganic materials. New concepts, approaches, fundamental understanding, deep level of basic research as well as the application aspects of inorganic materials have been the core interest of the conference. Topics have continuously evolved reflecting the most emerging scientific topics of its time. It is the 15th series, where new topics such as environmental materials, green chemistry, principles of sustainable and green approaches to materials and technology are introduced.

The conference has become a truly interdisciplinary meeting covering all aspects of interesting scientific discoveries and materials-related topics. The SSC 2024 will continue in this tradition aiming to enrich and stimulate scientific discussion among different research fields. It is the natural curiosity of every scientist to tackle and answer the most difficult problems which connect us all.

We look forward to meeting you all in Usti nad Labem in September 2024.

Jiří Orava & Kamil Lang, Chairpersons of the SSC 2024 conference

Keynote & Plenary & Invited Speakers

Venue

The conference will be held in the new building of the Centre of Natural Sciences and Technology, which is the home of the Faculty of Environment, the host institute of the conference, and the Faculty of Natural Science J. E. Purkyne University in Usti nad Labem (UJEP).

The university bears its name after the famous Czech anatomist and physiologist Jan Evangelista Purkyne (1787-1869), who is probably best known, among other discoveries, for his work on neurons and fibrous tissue that conduct electrical signals.

In 2019, the mining history of the region was together with Saxony listed as a UNESCO heritage.

J. E. Purkyne University in Usti nad Labem, Faculty of Environment Pasteurova 3632/15, 400 96 Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic

How to get to the venue

Usti nad Labem and the university is conveniently located between Prague (Czech Republic) and Dresden (Germany). Both Prague and Dresden have international airports with very frequent flights to many international destinations. Upon arrival to either of the cities, Usti nad Labem can easily be reached by frequent train connections (1 hour) either from Dresden or Prague main stations.

HORIZON Europe Satellite Event

We are pleased to announce a satellite event of the SSC2024, focused on “Electrochemical Energy Storage Materials and Processes”, organized in collaboration with three EC-funded projects, [EMPHASIS], [GRAPHERGIA], and [INERRANT].

The satellite event aims to bring together researchers, experts, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds to explore the latest advancements in electrochemical energy storage, with a special emphasis on supercapacitors and batteries. By uniting individuals with varied expertise, we aim to facilitate discussions, share knowledge, and foster collaborations in this rapidly evolving field.

The event will feature presentations from leading researchers, panel discussions, and networking sessions, providing attendees with valuable insights and opportunities to connect with peers. Participants will have the chance to learn about the groundbreaking research and innovations emerging from the three EC-funded projects and engage in discussions on key challenges and opportunities in electrochemical energy storage.

We invite researchers, academics, industry professionals, and other stakeholders with an interest in electrochemical energy storage to join us for this exciting event.

We look forward to your participation and contributions to this important gathering.

Excursions - Guided tour of nuclear reactors and tokamak

As a part of the conference, a guided tour of the experimental nuclear reactors and thermonuclear fusion facility located in Prague will be offered to attendees. The experimental nuclear reactors are in the Nuclear Research Institute. Tokamaks are part of the research facility of the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences. Both places will offer the conference participants with the unique opportunity to see the latest insights and developments in the field of energy research.

Spaces for this visit are limited. Booking will become available on April 8, 2024, in the personal user account.
